ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Class Description:

The American Heart Association's ACLS course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of high-performance teams. The 2025 ACLS course reflects the new 2025 science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Intended Audience:
For healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiac arrest, stroke, or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, critical care/intensive care, and surgery such as Physicians, Nurses, and Paramedics, as well as others who need an ACLS course completion card for a job or other requirement.

  • Systematic approach (assessment)
  • High-quality BLS
  • Airway management
  • Rhythm recognition
  • Defibrillation
  • Intravenous (IV)/intraosseous (IO) access (information only)
  • Use of medications
  • Cardioversion
  • Transcutaneous pacing
  • High-performance teams

Notes:

  • Students must successfully demonstrate skills learned in class to receive a Course Completion Card
  • Students must pass a 50 question, multiple-choice test with a passing score of 84% or better to receive a Course Completion Card
  • Students must be on time to class, and students must be present for all video portions in their entirety throughout class to receive a Course Completion Card
  • The Course Completion Card is included in the listed training fee
  • The Course Completion Card is valid for 2 years

PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support

Class Description:

PALS is intended for healthcare professionals who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units that encounter pediatric patients on a regular basis.

The PALS Provider Course aims to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high‐performance team dynamics and high‐quality individual skills. The course includes a series of case scenario practices with simulations that reinforce important concepts. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%. Topics include:

This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, critical care/intensive care, and surgery such as Physicians, Nurses, and Paramedics, as well as others who need an PALS course completion card for a job or other requirement.

Objectives:

  • Perform high‐quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) per American Heart Association (AHA) basic life support (BLS) recommendations
  • Differentiate between patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
  • Recognize cardiopulmonary arrest early and begin CPR within 10 seconds
  • Apply team dynamics
  • Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure
  • Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
  • Differentiate between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
  • Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock
  • Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmias
  • Describe clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
  • Implement post–cardiac arrest management

How to Schedule a Skills Check Appointment

The American Heart Association Blended class option is an easy two-part process.

Part 1

Part 1 consists of completing an online learning experience by watching videos online in the comfort of your own home or office via a device connected to the Internet. After completion, you will be able to print a "Certificate of Completion" which you will bring with you to Part 2.

Part 1 is purchased through the American Heart Association at American Heart Association eLearning (link). Select the Courses you want to take and follow the directions on their site. Absolute CPR provides some product numbers for help/reference, but you must be sure you are selecting the right products for the classes you want to take.  When you are finished with Part 1, print the Certificate of Completion and bring it with to your Skills Check appointment (Part 2)

The time to complete these online portions varies depending on which class you are taking. While self-paced, they can take a bit of time to complete. (Estimated times available here)

Part 2

Part 2 includes the Skills Check. This starts by making an appointment (below) with an instructor at our office, where the instructor will assess the skills you learned in Part 1. The remaining videos will be watched then the Skills we will be performed. Students will have an opportunity to warm up and practice their skills with the manikin before the Instructors evaluate their skills.

After completing the Skills Check, your Course Completion Card will be issued.

 

Fees Associated with Blended Learning:

Online Portion * + Skills Check (below) + Course Completion Card = Total Cost

Example:  CPR / AED eLearning $18.50* + Skills Check $70 + eCard $22 = $110.50

Scheduling Your Skills Check Appointment

Select which Skills Check appointment you need and register below. Follow the directions in your Confirmation Email. Skills Check appointments can be scheduled before or after most classes, as time and schedule allow. Review our calendar to see our schedule. Directions in our Confirmation Email will instruct you to email our office.

What do you need in a First Aid Kit?

This depends on what you need a First Aid Kit for.

Different activities require different supplies. Some geographical loccations may require certain suppplies where other geolocations may require different supplies. Same goes for activities, some activities such as soccer practice may require gauze and bandaids where has hiking and camping may require splints and slings.

It is hard to prepare for every emergency realisticly, but you should plan for your needs.

Narcan is also known as naloxone, a drug that has become to be known as the “overdose” drug
Narcan helps reverse the effects of opioid drug overdoses
Previously limited to medical professionals only, Narcan can now be used by anyone in an emergency

The need for Narcan

Narcan’s popularity and transition to over the counter availability is related to drug overdoses
Narcan can reverse the effects of opioid drug side effects preventing loss of life
